To Automate or Not

Published on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 7:36:15 pm

When I have to make a big decision I write down the positives and negatives like the old Ben Franklin method.

Problem:  Should I automate my hospital’s purchasing operations?

               Why Automate:

  • Less time spent placing orders
  • Less paper
  • Fewer workers
  • Fewer mistakes
  • Fewer orders lost
  • More savings
  • More efficient
  • More productive
  • Faster invoice payment

           Why Not?:

  • Expensive to Implement
  • Training
  • IT Resources too busy with other projects
  • Technology is hard!
  • Total Cost of Ownership is high

Thoughts: Even if the total weight of the Negatives is greater than the weight of the sum of the Positives, is it more expensive to purchase the solutions to automate your Supply Chain or is it more expensive not to?

What is the solution?
